List of the best Content Writing Sites for Freelance Writers

It has been a while since I made a list of the best content writing sites for writers ( and clients), so I was inspired to make this post by a question that was asked at Yahoo Answers. The question was, "Apart from textbroker, what are the best content writing sites?"

For almost all of the following sites, the writer has to create an account, and write a sample so they can be vetted. Once you have shown that you can write at a particular level, you are allowed to pick up

A Guide to Hiring Freelance Writers on the Internet

Finding a writer online can be a tough exercise. You never know who you are dealing with, and what kind of work they will give you when the time comes to deliver the content. Therefore, I have written this guide to help you find the right content writer online

Sites Like Elance

There are a number of sites where you can look for a writer. You can create an account on Elance, freelancer or Odesk, and post a job, where writers can bid on your job.

Here is a brief overview of the three sites: Among the three, Elance has higher quality of writers as well as clients, because they limit the number of bids a writer can make per month. On Elance, you rarely see a job going for less than 1 cent a word, but on Odesk and freelancer, you often see jobs that are cheaper than that.

Whichever site you use, remember to see the past history of the writer. It is safer to go with an established writer than with a new account.

Textbroker and other Sites

Another way to find a writer is through sites like Textbroker, The Content Authority, Writer Access, iWriter, Copify, Croudsource, Textbroker UK for british English.

On these sites, the writers are already vetted and rated according to their past jobs, and there is more editorial control. Editorial control means that there is an editor that will make sure that you get the copy that you deserve ( for the price paid). However, you should first know about the type of copy you will get. For example, on Textbroker writers are rated in levels. A writer at level four is expected to writer error-free copy, which is not boring, and makes sense. A writer at level three may have some grammatical errors in his copy. At level five, we are talking about interesting copy written by qualified writers. The rates for the  levels are: level three copy at 1.5 cents, level four at 2.1 cents, and level five at 5 cents a word.

However, remember, that textbroker takes a 30% cut from the deal, which is a pretty big cut if you ask me(I say this as a writer). You can easily contact a textbroker writer online, and ask them to write for you. Just search for any mention of textbroker online in the last one week or one month, and if there is a writer talking about his or her textbroker account on his blog, you can contact him or her there. This is not against the terms of service of Textbroker because you never met that writer on that site. This idea is quite unconventional, but allows me to move on to the next mode of finding a good writer: contacting them directly.

SEO and Writing Forums

Finding a writer by yourself on the Internet is not an easy exercise, but there are some places where you can find them. For the cheapest type of content, you can go to digital point forum. Then there are Warrior Forum and Wicked Fire Forum where you can make a post about your requirement, and writers may contact you without moderation from anyone.
